Forerunners of the Future
Art Exhibit and Sale
On May 7th at Life Fellowship we are having an art exhibit and sale that we are calling "The Gallery". It is a community art sale. We have invited several local artists to come display and sell their creations. Some are bringing paintings. Others are bringing digital art. Some sculptures and metalwork and jewelry will also be for sale. Needless to say we are very excited for several reasons. First, because art is great and I love to see peoples expressions of life and the world around them.
Secondly, because Art (capital "A") was something that used to be associated with the Church (capital "C") and somewhere in our history we allowed it to become a secular practice or at the very least a practice that was not valued within the Church anymore so it was (like many others Christian practices) turned over to the world. We want to be a part of the Church that reclaims the creation of beauty in the world. Because as created beings we are to in turn create. That is one of our functions as Gods creation.
Thirdly, I believe that artists are the most unreached people group in America today. Art spans culture and socioeconomical barriers. Human nature is to create. And people of all walks of life create beauty or distruction in their own way. To some distruction is beauty. I digress....
We hope that we are seen as a place that accepts art and artists without bias. Scripture shows that God came to reconcile all things unto himself. Not all people, but rather all things. Art is one of those things.
Please pray for us that people will come and that people will buy. This is more than an art show but an opportunity for us to be known within the art community.
Also, artists from Ecclesia Community in Houston (the church Sharon and I would be at if we lived in Houston) are coming to do a live painting demonstration for us and create a piece for our church. Check them out at http://www.artworship.org

Daniel, as always you not only have our prayers but our support. The arts are sadly marginalized and villified in most of our conservative Christian circles. Randy's and your willingness to dive into the community around you sets a great example for all of us. Jen and I feel that the creation of visual arts has been suppressed so much by the church out of fear that our lives have become gray. (All areas of fine arts, including writing, theater and music, all seem to be lacking in most conservative churches).
I want to be one of those families that grabs hold of the creative. One thing that we have talked about more and more since the beginning of this year is how to find the time to create more. Writing music, painting, building, drawing, recording music all of these things are important to me. Each day that goes by where nothing creative happens for me is a shame.
